Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain and inflammation after ocular surgery
- Decrease in eye inflammation or redness due to seasonal allergies
Description
- Chemical composition as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Highly protein bound and metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system and prostaglandin synthesis
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only
- Injection: Single or multiple doses for moderately severe acute pain, varying doses based on age and weight
- Eye Drops: Administer 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Age under 16 years
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery
