Pharmacology

Tranexamic acid inhibits plasminogen activation, has low acute and chronic toxicity, and does not interfere with clotting processes.

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily
  • Children: Oral: 5-10 mg/kg for prophylaxis, doubled for therapeutic purposes

Interaction

Incompatible with penicillins, antagonized by thrombolytic drugs, potential for increased thrombus formation with estrogen-containing drugs
