Indications
- Adjunct to diet for atherosclerotic vascular disease
- Reduction of elevated total cholesterol and LDL-C
- Increased HDL-C in patients with hyperlipidemia
- Reduction of elevated total-C and LDL-C in patients with HoFH
Pharmacology
- Lowers plasma cholesterol levels
- Inhibits HMG-CoA reductase
- Increases hepatic LDL receptors
- Reduces LDL production
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage range: 10/10 mg to 80/20 mg daily
- Recommended starting dose: 10/10 mg or 20/10 mg daily
- Administered as a single dose with or without food
Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with fibric acid derivatives
- Avoid coadministration with cyclosporine
- Enhanced risk when used with niacin
Contraindications
- Active liver disease
- Hypersensitivity to any component

- Rhabdomyolysis
- Liver enzyme abnormalities
- Myalgia

Precautions & Warnings
- Exercise caution with colchicine coadministration
