Indications

  • Adjunct to diet and exercise

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits DPP-4 enzyme
  • Increases active incretin hormones
  • Stimulates insulin release
  • Decreases glucagon levels
  • Reduces hepatic glucose output
  • Inhibitor of SGLT2
  • Increases urinary glucose excretion

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose 10mg Empagliflozin and 5mg Linagliptin once daily
  • Increased dose to 25mg Empagliflozin and 5mg Linagliptin once daily
  • Renal impaired patients assessment before initiating

Interaction

  • Coadministration with diuretics increases urine volume
  • Increased risk of hypoglycemia with insulin secretagogues
  • Decreased exposure with inducers of P-glycoprotein or CYP3A4 Enzymes
  • Positive urine glucose test

Contraindications

  • Severe renal impairment
  • Hypersensitivity reaction to Linagliptin or Empagliflozin
