Abicon (500 mg+100 mg)/5 ml (Oral Suspension)

Indications

• Relief from acid reflux symptoms
• Treatment of heartburn
• Alleviation of indigestion
• Management of symptoms after gastric surgery
• Relief from symptoms of hiatus hernia
• Treatment of reflux esophagitis
• Management of laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms
• Alleviation of sore throat and cough

Pharmacology

• Combination of Sodium Alginate and Potassium Bicarbonate
• Formation of gel in stomach
• Formation of raft preventing acid reflux
• Physical mode of action
• Raft lasts up to 4 hours
• Excretion in feces

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dosage: 1-2 tablets 3-4 times daily after meals
• Children dosage: ½-1 tablet 3-4 times daily after meals
• 5-10 ml (1-2 teaspoonfuls) for adults 3-4 times daily
• 2.5-5ml (½-1 teaspoonful) for children 3-4 times daily
• Not recommended for children under 2 years
• No dose modifications for elderly
• Caution in hepatic impairment
• Caution in highly restricted salt diet for renal insufficiency

Interaction

• Consider 2-hour interval with other medicinal products
• Especially with tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, thyroid hormones, chloroquine, bisphosphonates, and estramustine

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Sodium Alginate and Potassium Bicarbonate

• Can be used during pregnancy if clinically needed

• Care needed in congestive cardiac failure
• Caution in hypercalcemia
• Care for patients with nephrocalcinosis
• Caution in recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi
• Possibility of reduced efficacy in low gastric acid levels

Overdose Effects

• Overdosage is rare
• Consult a registered physician in case of overdose
