Description
Renapine XR is an atypical psychotropic agent indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic psychoses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder. It is known to be an antagonist at multiple neurotransmitter receptors in the brain and belongs to the therapeutic class of atypical neuroleptic drugs.

Pharmacology
- Chemical Class: Dibenzothiazepine Derivatives
- Action: Antagonist at Serotonin 5HT1A and 5HT2, Dopamine D1 and D2, Histamine H1, Adrenergic α1 and α2 receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for Psychoses and Schizophrenia: 50-750 mg/day
- Dosage for Manic Episodes: 200-800 mg/day
- Dosage for Depressive Episodes: 300-600 mg/day
- Maintenance Treatment Dosage: 400-800 mg/day
Interaction
Caution should be exercised when used concomitantly with medicines known to cause electrolyte imbalance or to increase QT interval.
