Onset of Action
- 15 to 30 minutes after oral administration
Recommended Dosage for Adults
- 50-100 mg 4 times daily for anxiety and tension relief
- 25 mg 3 to 4 times daily for pruritus due to allergic conditions
- 50-100 mg for sedation
Recommended Dosage for Children
- 50-100 mg (5-10 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses for anxiety and tension relief
- 50 mg (5 teaspoonfuls) daily in divided doses for pruritus due to allergic conditions
- 0.6 mg/kg of body weight for sedation
Interaction with Other Drugs
- Potentiate Meperidine and Barbiturates
- Not known to interfere with the action of digitalis
- Should be avoided with monoamine oxidase inhibitors

- Hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or any of its ingredients

- Simultaneous use of other CNS depressant drugs should be avoided
- Dosage reduction when administered concomitantly with CNS depressants
Use in Special Populations
- Half of the normal dose in renal impairment patients
- Start with half the recommended dose in the elderly due to prolonged action
Overdose Effects
- Manifestation of hypersedation
- Vomiting induction recommended
- General supportive care and close monitoring of vital signs indicated
- Hypotension may be controlled with intravenous fluids and specific medications
- No specific antidote available
- No practical method to quantitate Urtizin in body fluids or tissue after ingestion or administration
