Pharmacology
- Combination of antacids and an alginate
- Neutralizes excess stomach acid
- Forms a protective barrier over the stomach contents
Dosage & Administration
- For adult and children over 12 years: 10-20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
- For children 6 to 12 years: 5-10 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
- Chewable tablet recommended dose for adults and children 12 years and over: Two to four tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
Interaction
- Time-interval of 2 hours should be considered between Naviscon intake and the administration of other medicinal products
Contraindications
- Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients
Side Effects
- Constipation
- Flatulence
- Stomach cramp
- Belching
- Sensation of swelling
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- No negative effect on fertility or reproduction
Precautions & Warnings
- High sodium content
- High in sodium
- Care needed in treating patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi
- Not recommended for children younger than 12 years without medical advice
- Should not be given to patients with phenylketonuria
- Mask the symptoms of other more serious underlying medical conditions
- Not to be used in patients with impaired renal function/insufficiency and with hypophosphatemia
Overdose Effects
- Symptomatic treatment should be given
- Abdominal distension
