Indications

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action
- Inhibition of enzymes responsible for cell-wall synthesis
- Susceptibility to gram-negative organisms
- Activity against gram-positive organisms
- Stability to beta-lactamases
Dosage
- Usual adult dosage of 1 gram every 8 to 12 hours
- Dosage determined by susceptibility of causative organisms
- Adult dosage range of 1 to 6 gm per day
- Different dosages for urinary tract infections and severe infections
- Reduced clearance in acutely ill elderly patients
Administration
- Intravenous or deep IM injection
- Reconstitution with Sterile Water for Injection
- Avoidance of intra-arterial administration
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ceftazidime or cephalosporin antibiotics

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Caution in individuals with history of gastrointestinal disease
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage reduction for impaired renal function
- Usage in peritoneal dialysis and CAPD
- No dosage adjustment for impaired hepatic function
