Indications
- Functional bowel/irritable bowel syndrome
- Urinary incontinence secondary to unstable detrusor muscle
- Infantile colic
- GIT spasm
- Colicky abdominal pain
- Diverticulitis

Pharmacology
- Antispasmodic effects
- Anticholinergic effects
- Relief of smooth muscle spasm in the gastrointestinal tract
- Specific action at cholinergic receptors
- Prevention of certain chemical interaction with receptors
- Relaxation of gut muscle
- Pain relief from gut muscle contraction and spasm
Dosage & Administration
- Adult oral dosage: 10-20 mg three times a day
- Children over 6 months oral dosage: 5-10 mg three times a day
- Adult injectable dosage: 80 mg daily in 4 equally divided doses
- Oral use to be started as soon as possible
Side Effects
- Insomnia
- Mydriasis
- Cycloplegia
- Increased ocular tension
- Urinary hesitancy
- Palpitations
- Dyspnea
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Non-teratogenic and non-embryocidal in animal trials
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- No data on drug secretion into breast milk
- Cautious use in case of lactating mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with autonomic neuropathy
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal disease
- Use with caution in patients with ulcerative colitis
- Use with caution in patients with coronary heart disease
- Use with caution in patients with congestive heart failure
- Use with caution in patients with cardiac tachyarrhythmia
- Use with caution in patients with hiatal hernia
- Use with caution in patients with known or suspected prostatic hypertrophy
Overdose Effects
- Toxic reaction seldom occurs with dicycloverine
- Signs and symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, dilated pupils, hot dry skin, dizziness, dryness of the mouth, difficulty in swallowing, CNS stimulation
