Indications
- Treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
- Reduction in the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH
Pharmacology
- Combination of Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Dutasteride
- Antagonist of alpha1A-adrenoreceptors
- 5 alpha reductase inhibitor
- Improves symptoms in patients with BPH
- Affects the dynamic and static component of BPH
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose is one capsule (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg & Dutasteride 0.5 mg)
- Oral administration approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day
- Swallow whole, not chewed or opened
- Substitute concomitant Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Dutasteride in existing dual therapy
- Appropriate for direct change from Tamsulosin Hydrochloride or Dutasteride monotherapy
Interaction
- No drug interaction studies for Dutasteride-Tamsulosin combination
- Potential effects with CYP3A4 and/or P-glycoprotein-inhibitors
- Long-term combination with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase serum concentrations of Dutasteride
- No effect on the pharmacokinetics of other drugs
Contraindications
- Contra-indicated in women, children, and adolescents
- Patients with hypersensitivity to Dutasteride, Tamsulosin, soya, peanut, or any of the excipients
- Patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension and severe hepatic impairment
Side Effects
- Most common adverse reactions: impotence, decreased libido, breast disorders, ejaculation disorders, dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Contra-indicated for use by women
- No studies on effect during pregnancy, lactation, and fertility
- Dutasteride may affect semen characteristics in healthy men
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed after careful benefit risk assessment
- Increased risk of adverse events including cardiac failure
- Regular evaluation for prostate cancer risk including PSA testing
Overdose Effects

- In volunteer studies, single daily doses up to 40 mg/day of Dutasteride administered for 7 days without significant safety concerns
