Title
- Ampol XR 665 mg Tablet
Categories
- Non-opioid analgesics
Description
- Ampol XR is indicated for fever, common cold, influenza, headache, toothache, earache, bodyache, myalgia, neuralgia, dysmenorrhoea, sprains, colic pain, back pain, post-operative pain, postpartum pain, inflammatory pain, and post-vaccination pain in children. It is also indicated for rheumatic & osteoarthritic pain and stiffness of joints.
- Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity. It acts primarily in the CNS by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis. Paracetamol is considered safe, fast-acting, and well-tolerated without various side effects of aspirin.
- Ampol XR has various dosage forms for adults and children, including tablets, extended-release tablets, syrup/suspension, suppository, and pediatric drop. It also contains technology for faster dissolution and is suitable for those intolerant to aspirin or other analgesics.
- Patients who have taken barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, or alcohol may have diminished ability to metabolize large doses of Ampol XR. Chronic ingestion of anticonvulsants or oral steroid contraceptives may prevent attainment of therapeutic Ampol XR levels by increasing first-pass metabolism or clearance.
- Ampol XR is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol. Side effects are usually mild, but haematological reactions and allergic reactions may occur.
- Epidemiological studies show no ill effects due to Paracetamol use in recommended dosage during pregnancy and lactation. However, caution is advised, and patients should follow their doctor's advice. Ampol XR should be used with caution in patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment and should not be taken concurrently with other Ampol XR-containing products.
- Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10g or more of Ampol XR. Immediate treatment is essential for overdose management. Ampol XR belongs to the therapeutic class of non-opioid analgesics and should be stored in a dry place away from light and heat, out of children's reach.
- The molecular formula of Paracetamol is C8H9NO2.
