Indications
- Treats panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
- Treats Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
- Treats akinetic and myoclonic seizures
- May be indicated in patients with absence seizures
Pharmacology
- Exhibits anticonvulsive, sedative, muscle relaxing, and anxiolytic effects
- Enhances GABAergic neurotransmission at inhibitory synapses
- Suppresses various types of paroxysmal activity in seizures
- Affects serotonin levels
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose for adults with seizure disorders should not exceed 1.5 mg/day
- Initial dose for adults with panic disorder is 0.25 mg
- Dosage for pediatric patients based on weight and age
- Dosage for intravenous infusion and injection in adults and children
Interaction
- Does not significantly alter the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, carbamazepine or phenobarbital
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
- Should not be used in patients with significant liver disease
- Contraindicated in acute narrow angle glaucoma

- Greater pharmacologic effects in elderly patients
- No dose adjustment required in renal impairment
- Potential reduced clearance in liver cirrhosis
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include drowsiness, ataxia, dysarthria, and nystagmus
- Severe overdose may lead to hypotension, respiratory depression, and coma
- Monitoring vital signs and supportive measures are essential
