Indications
- Treatment of Acute and chronic psychoses
- Treatment of schizophrenia

Pharmacology
- Atypical psychotropic agent
- Antagonist at multiple neurotransmitter receptors

Dosage & Administration
- Twice daily administration
- First four days dose titration
- Usual effective dose range of 300-450 mg/day
- Dosage adjustment based on clinical response and tolerability
- Initial daily dose for manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder is 100 mg
Interaction
- Caution with medicines causing electrolyte imbalance
- Co-administration with thioridazine or carbamazepine
- Increases in clearance with co-administration of microsomal enzyme inducers like phenytoin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Quetiapine

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety and efficacy not established during human pregnancy
- Use during pregnancy if benefits justify potential risks
- Unknown excretion into human milk
- Advice to avoid breastfeeding while taking Quetiapine
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of suicidal thoughts and self-harm
- Caution in patients with cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease
- Caution in patients with history of seizures
- Consideration of dose reduction if tardive dyskinesia appears
Use in Special Populations
- Caution in the elderly
- Not indicated for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age
Overdose Effects
- Survival reported in acute overdoses of up to 30 grams
- No specific antidote
- Intensive care procedures recommended
- Close medical supervision and monitoring
