Indications
- Treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
- Reduction in the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery in patients with moderate to severe symptoms of BPH
Pharmacology
- Combination of Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Dutasteride
- Alpha1-adrenoreceptor blocking agent
- 5 alpha reductase inhibitor (5ARI)
- Improves urine flow rate and reduces BPH symptoms
- Tamsulosin affects the dynamic component of BPH by inhibiting alpha1-adrenoreceptors
- Dutasteride affects the static component of BPH by inhibiting the conversion of Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose: Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg & Dutasteride 0.5 mg daily after the same meal
- Capsules should be swallowed whole
- Renal impairment: No dosage adjustment anticipated
- Hepatic impairment: Caution in patients with mild to moderate impairment, contraindicated in severe impairment
Interaction
- No formal drug interaction studies for Dutasteride-Tamsulosin combination
