Description

Corovas is indicated for reducing elevated total-C, LDL-C, non HDL-C, and TG levels and to increase HDL-C in patients with primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used for hypertriglyceridemia, primary dysbetalipoproteinemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis, risk reduction of MI, stroke and arterial revascularization procedures, and pediatric patients 10 to 17 years of age with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

Attributes

  • Dosage Range: 5-20 mg/day
  • Maximum Recommended Dosage: 20 mg/day
  • Usual Dosage for Very High Cholesterol and High Risk of MI or Stroke: 40 mg once daily
  • Recommended Starting Dose for Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia: 20 mg once daily
  • Dosage in Asian Patients: Initiation with 5 mg once daily
  • Interaction with Cyclosporine: Dose should be limited to 5 mg once daily
  • Interaction with Gemfibrosil: Combination should be avoided. If used together, dose should be limited to 10 mg once daily
  • Concomitant Lipid-Lowering Therapy: The risk of skeletal muscle effects may be enhanced
  • Dosage in Patients with Severe Renal Impairment: Dosing should be started at 5 mg once daily and not exceed 10 mg once daily
  • Contraindications:
    • Known hypersensitivity to product components
    • Liver disease
    • Pregnant or nursing women
  • Side Effects:
    • Headache
    • Myalgia
    • Constipation
    • Asthenia
    • Abdominal pain
    • Nausea
  • Pregnancy & Lactation: Should be administered with caution in women of childbearing age
  • Precautions:
    • Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
    • Liver enzyme tests should be performed periodically
