Composition
- Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by the physician
- Effervescent tablet should be dissolved in a glass of water to drink orally, preferably on a full stomach for better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium and require regular serum calcium monitoring
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption, may require increased calcium tablet dose
- Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with the absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcaemia may increase the toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
- Concomitant use of bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride requires administartion at least three hours before the intake of calcium tablet
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Concomitant digoxin therapy requiring careful monitoring of serum Calcium level

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol during pregnancy
- Studies in animals have shown reproductive toxicity with high dose of vitamin D
- Overdoses of calcium and vitamin D should be avoided in pregnant women
- No indications of teratogenicity with therapeutic doses of vitamin D in humans
- Calcium and vitamin D3 can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with consideration of vitamin D passing into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Long-term treatment requires monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function, especially in elderly patients, patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics, and patients with a tendency to calculus formation
- Caution in patients with impaired renal function, and monitoring of calcium and phosphate levels and risk of soft tissue calcification
- Caution in patients with severe renal insufficiency, use of other forms of vitamin D
- Prescribed with caution in patients suffering from sarcoidosis, with monitoring of serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion
- Caution in immobilised patients with osteoporosis due to the increased risk of hypercalcaemia
- Consideration of the dose of vitamin D when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D, additional doses under close medical supervision
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms of hypercalcaemia may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, and in severe cases, cardiac arrhythmias
- Persistently high calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
- Discontinuation of treatment with calcium and other concomitant drugs
- Rehydration and isolated or combined treatment with loop diuretics, bisphosphonates, calcitonin, and corticosteroids
