Indications

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Broad spectrum bactericidal activity
  • Treatment of acute infections
  • High stability in presence of beta-lactamase enzymes

Pharmacology

  • Third generation cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal action
  • Interference in bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Broad spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • High stability in presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Dosage for adults and children over 10 years
  • Dosage for children based on age and weight
  • Dosage adjustments for elderly patients and those with renal impairment

Interaction

  • Potential increase in prothrombin times in some patients
  • Caution with anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
