Indications
- Treatment of mild to moderate Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)
Pharmacology

- Antioxidant properties

- Improves lung function
- Reduces acute exacerbations in IPF patients
- Suppression of TGF-β1
- Downregulates expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines
Dosage & Administration
- Route of administration: Oral with food
- Recommended daily dose: 2403 mg/day
- Dose titration over 14 days
- Dose adjustment for gastrointestinal events
- Dose adjustment for photosensitivity reaction or rash
- Dose adjustment for significant liver function elevation
Interaction
- Moderate and strong CYP1A2 inhibitors increase systemic exposure
- Dosage adjustments with certain medicines
- Reduced adverse reactions observed with food intake
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
- Concomitant use of fluvoxamine
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease
Side Effects
- Common: nausea, rash, abdominal pain, upper respiratory tract infection, diarrhea, fatigue
- Rare: photosensitivity reaction, decreased appetite, pruritus, asthenia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Preferable to avoid use during pregnancy
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Potential risk to the suckling child
- No effects on fertility in rats

- Monitoring of liver enzymes
- Avoidance of sunlight and sunlamps
- Monitoring for gastrointestinal disorders
