Indications

• relief of persistent dry cough
• aids restful sleep

Composition

• Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride BP 14 mg
• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP 6.5 mg
• Levomenthol BP 2 mg

Pharmacology

• Dextromethorphan raises cough reflex threshold
• Levomenthol has local anesthetic and decongestant properties
• Diphenhydramine has antitussive, antihistaminic, and anticholinergic properties

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dosage: 2 teaspoonfuls of syrup 4 times a day
• Maximum 8 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours
• Pediatric use not established

Interaction

• Potentiate effects of alcohol and CNS depressants
• Anticholinergic activity may potentiate effects of certain drugs
• Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the product or components
• Recent use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors
• Not for individuals at risk of respiratory failure

• Limited information on use during pregnancy
• Use in lactation only if benefits outweigh potential hazards

• Not for individuals with narrow-angle glaucoma or symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy
• Caution in adolescents and young adults

Overdose Effects

• Hallucinations
• Convulsions
• Coma or cardiovascular collapse in massive doses
• Symptomatic and supportive treatment recommended
