Indications
- Prophylaxis and treatment of haemorrhagic disease in the newborn
- Haemorrhage or risk of haemorrhage due to severe hypoprothrombinemia
- Prevention and treatment of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency
Pharmacology
- Procoagulant factor
- Involved in post translational carboxylation of clotting factors
- Promotes synthesis of coagulation factors by the liver
Dosage & Administration
- Oral dose for neonates at or just after birth
- Intravenous or intramuscular administration if oral route is unsuitable
- Therapy initiation with intravenous injection
- Special dosage for neonates with risk factors
Interaction
- Antagonises the effect of coumarin-type anticoagulants
- Coadministration of anticonvulsants may impair the action of vitamin K-1
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any of its constituents
Side Effects
- Possible occurrence of anaphylactoid reactions
- Venous irritation or phlebitis after parenteral use

- Careful monitoring of coagulation parameters for patients with severely impaired liver function
