Description
Gavirad 500 Suspension is indicated in gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion, flatulence associated with gastric reflux, heartburn of pregnancy, and all cases of epigastric and retrosternal distress where the underlying cause is gastric reflux. It contains two antacids (Calcium carbonate and Sodium bicarbonate) and an alginate (Sodium alginate) which work by neutralizing excess stomach acid and forming a protective barrier over the stomach contents. The recommended dosage and administration varies for adults, children, and elderly individuals. Precautions need to be taken for sodium and calcium content in the product, and it is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or excipients. Side effects may include constipation, flatulence, stomach cramp, belching, and a sensation of swelling in case of overdose. It is considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Interaction with certain medicinal products should have a time-interval of 2 hours. The therapeutic class is antacids, and it should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from light, below 30°C, and out of the reach of children.
