Gabahil 100 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Neuropathic Pain
• Adjunctive therapy in partial seizure and secondary generalized seizure

Pharmacology

• Anti-convulsant
• Structural analog of gamma-amino-butyric-acid (GABA)
• Binds with the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage gated L-type Calcium channel
• Inhibits branched chain amino acid transferase
• Inhibits neurotransmitter release of excitatory amino acid

Dosage

• Initiate with a single 300 mg dose on Day-1 for Neuropathic Pain
• Titrate dosage up to a daily dose of 1800 mg for pain relief
• Effective dose for Epilepsy: 900 to 1800 mg/day given in three divided doses for patients over 12 years of age
• Starting dose for Paediatric patients age 3-12 year: 10-15 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses

Administration

• Oral administration
• Can be taken with or without food

Interaction

• Antacids may reduce bioavailability by up to 20%
• Cimetidine may alter renal excretion

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to Gabapentin

• Somnolence

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy category C
• Use during pregnancy if potential benefits justify potential risk to fetus
• May be secreted through breast milk
• Use during lactation if potential benefits justify potential risk to baby

Precautions & Warnings

• Take Gabahil only as prescribed
• Not to drive a car or operate complex machinery until familiar with effects
• Adverse impact on mental and/or motor performance

Use in Special Populations

• Reduce doses for renal impaired patients
