Pharmacology

  • Orally administered
  • Readily absorbed
  • Enhanced absorption on an empty stomach
  • Peak concentration in adults within 2.1 to 3.2 hours
  • High concentration in phagocytes
  • Active transportation to site of infection
  • Release of large concentrations during active phagocytosis
  • Concentration in tissues over 50 times higher than in plasma
  • Half-life allowing a large single dose to be administered and maintain bacteriostatic levels for several days
