Dosage And Administration
- Usual adult dose: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily
- Prophylactic adult dose: 0.5-1 gm orally or 500 mg parenterally
- Therapeutic adult dose: 1-3 gm orally with initial intravenous injection
- Prophylactic child dose: 5-10 mg per kg body weight daily
- Therapeutic child dose: Doubled oral doses or initial intravenous treatment
- No reduction in dosage for elderly unless evidence of renal failure
Interaction
- Incompatible with penicillins
- Antagonistic interaction with thrombolytic drugs
- Potential increase in thrombus formation with estrogen containing drugs
- Avoid direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion

- Use in hyperfibrinolysis cases
- Initiate prophylactic treatment before operation and continue post-operation
- Prolong therapy of hemorrhages after manifestations disappear
- Reduce doses in hematuria to prevent clot formation in urinary tract
- Avoid use in serious renal insufficiency or anuric syndromes
- Use with caution in less serious renal dysfunctions, cardiopathic, and hepatopathic subjects
