Dosage
- Initial dose of 5-10 mg once daily for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
- Daily dosage range of 5-20 mg
- Maximum dosage of 20 mg daily for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
- Initial dose of 15 mg once daily for monotherapy of mania
Administration
- Can be given without regard to meals
- Gradual tapering of the dose while discontinuing
Interaction
- Antagonizes effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- May be affected by CYP1A2 inducers like Omeprazole and Rifampicin
- May be inhibited by CYP1A2 inhibitors
- Affected by carbamazepine
- Reduced oral bioavailability by activated charcoal
- Caution with centrally acting drugs and alcohol
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Known risk for narrow-angle glaucoma

- Use cautiously in patients with history of seizures
- Use cautiously in patients with low leukocyte and/or neutrophil counts
- Use cautiously in conditions associated with seizures
- Use cautiously in drug-induced bone marrow depression/toxicity
- Use cautiously in hypereosinophilic conditions
- Use cautiously in impaired hepatic function
- Use cautiously in patients with hepatotoxic medicine
