Technical Specifications
- Antifibrinolytic Action: 10 times more active than conventional hemostatics
- Absorption: Well absorbed by oral route
- Excretion: Mainly by renal route but more slowly than conventional hemostatics
- Toxicity: Acute toxicity extremely low, chronic toxicity almost non-existent
- Effect Onset: 15-30 minutes after administration
- Interactions:
- Incompatible with: Solutions containing penicillins
- Antagonizes: Thrombolytic drugs like Streptokinase & Urokinase
- Potential to Increase Thrombus Formation with: Estrogen-containing drugs like oral contraceptives
- Precaution with: Direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion
Usability Features
- Dosage and Administration:
- Adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily for prophylaxis and therapy of hemorrhagic manifestations
- Children: For prophylaxis: 5-10 mg/kg/day; For therapy: 10-20 mg/kg/day
- Elderly patients: No reduction in dosage necessary unless evidence of renal failure
- Storage Conditions: Dry place at 15-30°C, away from light and out of children's reach
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Not to be administered during known and presumed pregnancy; Passes into breast milk to a minimal concentration
