Technical Specifications

  • Antifibrinolytic Action: 10 times more active than conventional hemostatics
  • Absorption: Well absorbed by oral route
  • Excretion: Mainly by renal route but more slowly than conventional hemostatics
  • Toxicity: Acute toxicity extremely low, chronic toxicity almost non-existent
  • Effect Onset: 15-30 minutes after administration
  • Interactions:
    • Incompatible with: Solutions containing penicillins
    • Antagonizes: Thrombolytic drugs like Streptokinase & Urokinase
    • Potential to Increase Thrombus Formation with: Estrogen-containing drugs like oral contraceptives
    • Precaution with: Direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion

Usability Features

  • Dosage and Administration:
    • Adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily for prophylaxis and therapy of hemorrhagic manifestations
    • Children: For prophylaxis: 5-10 mg/kg/day; For therapy: 10-20 mg/kg/day
    • Elderly patients: No reduction in dosage necessary unless evidence of renal failure
  • Storage Conditions: Dry place at 15-30°C, away from light and out of children's reach
  • Pregnancy & Lactation: Not to be administered during known and presumed pregnancy; Passes into breast milk to a minimal concentration
