Indications

  • Acute and chronic psychoses
  • Mania
  • Schizophrenia

Pharmacology

  • Selective monoaminergic antagonist
  • High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
  • Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
  • Central serotonin and dopamine antagonism

Dosage & Administration

  • Initial dose of 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses
  • Usual dose range 4-6 mg daily
  • Elderly dosage adjustments
  • Initial dose of 1 mg daily for mania
  • Target dose of 3 mg BID for schizophrenia
  • Dosage adjustments at intervals of not less than 1 week

Interaction

  • Antagonizes effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
  • Reduces plasma clearance with Carbamazepine
  • May enhance effects of certain antihypertensives

  • Known hypersensitivity to the product
