Indications
- Mild to moderate infections in adults and adolescents
- Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis
- Community Acquired Pneumonia
- Pharyngitis

Pharmacology
- Cefditoren Pivoxil
- Broad spectrum third generation cephalosporin antibiotic
- Prodrug
- Antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Inhibition of cell wall synthesis via affinity for penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)
- Stability in the presence of various ß-lactamases
Dosage & Administration
- Should be taken after meals
- 400 mg twice daily for 14 days (Community-Acquired Pneumonia)
- 400 mg twice daily for 10 days (Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis)
- 200 mg twice daily for 10 days (Pharyngotonsillitis and Acute Sinusitis)
- 200 mg twice daily for 10 days (Uncomplicated Skin and Soft Structure Infections)
Interaction
- Reduced oral absorption with Antacids and Famotidine (intravenous administration)
- Increased plasma exposure with co-administration of probenecid
- No effect on the pharmacokinetics of ethinyl estradiol (estrogenic component in most oral contraceptives)
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cephalosporin class of antibiotics or any of its components
- Contains sodium caseinate, a milk protein (contraindicated in patients with milk protein hypersensitivity)

Precautions & Warnings
- Not recommended for prolonged antibiotic treatment
- Potential clinical manifestations of carnitine deficiency with prolonged use of pivalate-containing compounds
- Not recommended in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection
Use in Special Populations
- Not recommended for pediatric patients less than 12 years of age
- No dose adjustments necessary in geriatric patients with normal renal function
- Dose adjustments based on renal impairment
- No dose adjustments necessary for patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- Information on Editoren overdosage in humans is not available
- Potential adverse effects including nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, diarrhea, and convulsions
- Hemodialysis may aid in removal from the body
