Indications
- Mild to moderate infections treatment
- Adults and adolescents (12 years of age or older)
- Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis

Mode of Action
- Preparation of Cefditoren Pivoxil
- Broad spectrum third generation cephalosporin antibiotic
- Prodrug hydrolyzed by esterases
- Bactericidal activity against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Inhibition of cell wall synthesis via affinity for penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)
- Stable in the presence of various β-lactamases
Dosage and Administration
- To be taken after meals
- 400 mg twice daily for 14 days in Community-Acquired Pneumonia
- 400 mg twice daily for 10 days in Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis
- 200 mg twice daily for 10 days in Pharyngotonsillitis and Acute Sinusitis
- 200 mg twice daily for 10 days in Uncomplicated Skin and Soft Structure Infections
Interaction
- Reduced oral absorption by Antacids and Famotidine (intravenous administration)
- Increase in plasma exposure by co-administration of probenecid
- No effect on pharmacokinetics of ethinyl estradiol
Contraindications
- Known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics
- Allergy to any components of Cefditoren
- Sodium caseinate (milk protein) hypersensitivity

Precautions and Warnings
- Not recommended for prolonged antibiotic treatment
- Unlikely to provide benefit in the absence of proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection
- Increased risk of development of drug-resistant bacteria
Use in Special Populations
- Not recommended for pediatric patients less than 12 years of age
- No dose adjustments for geriatric patients with normal renal function
- Dose adjustments for patients with renal insufficiency
- No dose adjustments for patients with mild or moderate hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- Adverse effects including nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, diarrhea, and convulsions
- Potential removal via hemodialysis if renal function is compromised
