Description

  • Temporarily relieves cough, runny nose, sneezing, itching of nose or throat, itchy watery eyes, nasal congestion, reduces swelling of nasal passages due to common cold, hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies
  • Contains antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agents
  • Adult dosage: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) every 4 hours; Children 6 to under 12 years: ½ teaspoonful (2.5 ml) every 4 hours; Children 2 to 6 years: Use with caution; Children below 2 years: Not to be used
  • Can be taken with or without food; measure liquid doses carefully
  • Potential drug interactions with MAO inhibitors and other medications
  • Contraindications in patients with liver disease, asthma, severe hypertension, severe coronary artery disease, and those taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment
  • Possible side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, GIT discomfort, transient hypertension, dry mouth, restlessness, palpitations, allergic reactions, toxic psychosis, blood dyscrasia
  • Best avoided during pregnancy and lactation; caution required in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, hepatic disease, hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes; consultation required if symptoms do not improve within one week or accompanied by high fever
  • Hospital admission recommended in case of overdose; measures for treatment of respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, delusions, hallucinations, convulsion; treatment for hypertension and associated reflex bradycardia due to severe overdose; combined cough suppressants therapeutic class
  • Should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light
