Indications
- Adjunct to diet for atherosclerotic vascular disease
- Reduction of elevated total cholesterol
- Reduction of LDL-C and Apo B
- Increase of HDL-C
- Reduction of elevated total-C and LDL-C
Pharmacology
- Atorvastatin lowers plasma cholesterol
- Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase
- Ezetimibe reduces blood cholesterol
- Ezetimibe inhibits absorption of cholesterol
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage range from 10/10 mg to 80/20 mg daily
- Recommended starting dose of 10/10 mg or 20/10 mg daily
- Administration as a single dose with or without food
- Dosage adjustment based on lipid levels
Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent fibric acid derivatives
- Coadministration with cyclosporine should be avoided
- Enhanced risk of skeletal muscle effects with niacin
Contraindications
- Active liver disease
- Hypersensitivity to any component
