Description
- Radifylin is a medication used for the treatment of bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component.
Dosage & Administration
- 200 mg tablet for elderly two or three times daily
- 400 mg tablet for adults two or three times daily
- 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet for children >12 years of age two or three times daily
- 6-9 mg/kg body weight for children 6-12 years of age
- 400 mg of Doxophylline SR tablet if required daily dose is 400 mg
- As prescribed by the physician
Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Doxophylline is a novel bronchodilator
- Selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Reports of inhibiting platelet activating factor (PAF) and generation of leukotriene production
Interaction
- Not to be administered with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
- Exercise caution when administering with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, influenza vaccine, propanolol may reduce hepatic clearance
- Phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking may increase clearance

- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- During lactation

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Animal tests have shown no interference with pre and postnatal growth
- Insufficient clinical evidence during pregnancy, evaluate risk-benefit ratio on a case-by-case basis
- Contraindicated during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Factors that may reduce hepatic clearance
- Age
- Congestive cardiac decompensation
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Severe liver disease
- Concomitant infections
- Caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, elderly, severe hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, chronic corpulmonale, congestive heart failure, liver disease, peptic ulcer, and renal impairment
Overdose Effects
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias
- Tonic-clonic seizure
- Discontinue treatment and resume at lower doses after symptoms subside
