- Preparation of tranexamic acid

Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose for adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily
- Prophylactic doses: 0.5-1 gm orally, 500 mg by parenteral route
- Therapeutic doses: 1-3 gm orally in divided doses

Interaction
- Incompatibility with penicillins
- Antagonism with thrombolytic drugs
- Potential for increased thrombus formation with estrogen containing drugs
- Avoid direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion
Contraindications
- Known individual hypersensitivity to the product
- Thromboembolic disease
- Arterial and venous thrombosis
- Endocavitary hemorrhages
- Serious kidney failure

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid administration during known and presumed pregnancy
- Passage into breast milk
- Unlikely antifibrinolytic effect in the infant

- Dose reduction in hematuria
- Caution in renal insufficiency or anuric syndromes
