Indications

Pharmacology

Suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase

Dosage

  • Active Duodenal Ulcer and Active Benign Gastric Ulcer: 20 mg once daily in the morning
  • Erosive or Ulcerative Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks
  • GERD Long-term Management: 20 mg or 10 mg once daily
  • Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (symptomatic GERD): 10 mg once daily
  • Treatment of GERD in pediatric patients 1 to 11 years of age (Less than 15 kg): 5 mg once daily
  • Treatment of GERD in pediatric patients 1 to 11 years of age (15 kg or more): 10 mg once daily
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 60-120 mg once daily
  • Eradication of H. pylori: Combination of rabeprazole sodium 20 mg twice daily, clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily, and amoxicillin 1g twice daily for 7 days

Administration

Take in the morning before eating, do not chew or crush, swallow whole

Interaction

  • Potential pH-dependent absorption interaction
  • May decrease plasma levels of compounds like ketoconazole or itraconazole

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
  • Contra-indicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding
