DosageAndAdministration

  • Usual dose for adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily

  • No reduction in dosage for elderly unless evidence of renal failure

Interactions

  • Incompatibility with solutions containing penicillins
  • Antagonism with thrombolytic drugs
  • Increased potential for thrombus formation with estrogen-containing drugs
  • Avoid direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion

  • Arterial and venous thrombosis
  • Endocavitary hemorrhages
  • Serious kidney failure

PrecautionsAndWarnings

  • Use in cases of hyperfibrinolysis
  • Initiate prophylactic treatment 24 hours before operation
  • Prolong therapy of hemorrhages for at least 24 hours after disappearance of manifestations
  • Reduce doses in hematuria to prevent formation of clots in urinary tract
  • Avoid use in serious renal insufficiency or anuric syndromes
  • Use with caution in less serious renal dysfunctions
  • Exercise particular care in cardiopathic and hepatopathic subjects
