DosageAndAdministration
- Usual dose for adults: 500-1000 mg 3 times daily
- Prophylactic dose for children: 5-10 mg per kg of body weight daily
- Therapeutic dose for children: 10-20 mg per kg of body weight
- No reduction in dosage for elderly unless evidence of renal failure
Interactions
- Incompatibility with solutions containing penicillins
- Antagonism with thrombolytic drugs
- Increased potential for thrombus formation with estrogen-containing drugs
- Avoid direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion

PrecautionsAndWarnings
- Use in cases of hyperfibrinolysis
- Initiate prophylactic treatment 24 hours before operation
- Prolong therapy of hemorrhages for at least 24 hours after disappearance of manifestations
- Reduce doses in hematuria to prevent formation of clots in urinary tract
- Avoid use in serious renal insufficiency or anuric syndromes
- Use with caution in less serious renal dysfunctions
- Exercise particular care in cardiopathic and hepatopathic subjects
