Technical specifications

  • Age group dosage:
    • Adults and adolescents: Montelukast 10 mg tablet once daily
    • Pediatric patients:
      • 6 to 14 years: Montelukast 5 mg tablet once daily
      • 2 to 5 years: Montelukast 4 mg tablet once daily
      • 6 months to 5 years: Montelukast 4 mg oral granules once daily
  • Hepatic insufficiency: No dosage adjustment required for mild-to-moderate hepatic insufficiency
  • Renal insufficiency: No dosage adjustment recommended for patients with renal insufficiency
  • Elderly use: Similar pharmacokinetic profile and oral bioavailability as in younger adults, slightly longer plasma half-life
  • Overdose effects:

Pharmacology

Montelukast is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1).

    • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents
    • Benzodiazepines
    • Decongestants
  • Phenobarbital interaction:
    • Decreased AUC of Nozma ODT: Approximately 40%
    • Recommended monitoring when co-administered with:
      • Phenobarbital
      • Rifampin
