Mode of Action
- Antifibrinolytic action, plasminogen activation inhibition, low acute toxicity, well-absorbed orally, excretion by renal route
Dosage
- 500-1000 mg 3 times daily for adults, oral and parenteral administration for prophylaxis, increased doses for therapy of hemorrhagic manifestations, weight-dependent doses for children, no reduction in dosage for elderly patients
Interaction
- Incompatible with penicillins, antagonized by thrombolytic drugs, potential for increased thrombus formation with estrogen-containing drugs, avoid direct admixture with whole blood during transfusion
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity, thromboembolic disease, serious kidney failure
Side Effects
- Fatigue, conjunctival irritation, nasal blockage, itching, skin reddening, exanthems, nausea, diarrhea, gastric pyrosis, rare cases of postural hypotension
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid during known and presumed pregnancy, passes into breast milk in low concentration
Precautions & Warnings
- Use in cases of hyperfibrinolysis, initiate prophylactic treatment 24 hours before operation, prolong therapy for at least 24 hours after manifestations have disappeared, use with caution in renal and less serious renal dysfunctions, care required in cardiopathic and hepatopathic subjects
