Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis
- Prophylactic use during major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits the formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Dosage may be doubled in severe infections
- Intramuscular injection: 250 mg four times daily for adults
- Intravenous injection: 250 mg-1 g four times daily for adults
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal

Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level in blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Common side effects of gastrointestinal tract
- Rashes, urticaria, purpura
- Minor gastrointestinal disturbances
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia
- Interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Caution should be exercised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in treatment of patients with an allergic diathesis
