Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 2 tablets orally daily in the morning and noon
- Severe Cases: Morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets
- Elderly Patients: 1 tablet in the morning
- Maintenance Dose: 1 tablet orally in the morning
- Recommendation: Additional treatment with a sedative in the acute phase for insomnia or severe restlessness
Interaction
- Enhances response to alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants
- Simultaneous administration of MAO-inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises
- Reduces antihypertensive effect of guanethidine and similar acting compounds
- Enhances effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline
Contraindications
- Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction
- Defects in bundle-branch conduction
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
- Acute alcohol, barbiturate, and opiate intoxications
- Patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within two weeks
- Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients

Pregnancy & Lactation
Preferably not given during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Withdraw gradual treatment with tranquillizers with sedative effect
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms:
- Intoxications by melitracen (especially of anticholinergic nature)
- Extrapyramidal symptoms due to flupentixol
- Treatment:
- Gastric Lavage: Carried out as soon as possible
- Activated Charcoal: May be administered
- Respiratory and Cardiovascular Systems: Supportive measures
- Epinephrine (Adrenaline): Must not be used
- Convulsions: Treated with diazepam
- Extrapyramidal Symptoms: Treated with biperiden
