Fenatrol 145 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Hyperlipidemias of type lla
• llb
• III
• IV & V

Pharmacology

• Fibric acid derivative
• Rapidly hydrolyzed
• Reduces total cholesterol
• Increases HDL
• Reduces serum uric acid levels

Dosage & Administration

• Initial dose of 200 mg per day for adult patients with hypercholesterolemia or mixed hyperlipidemia
• Initial dose of 67 to 200 mg per day for adult patients with hypertriglyceridemia
• Dose should be individualized according to patient response
• Should be given with meal to optimize bioavailability
• Or, as directed by the registered physician

Interaction

• Potentiates anticoagulant effects of warfarin
• Improves glucose tolerance when administered with antidiabetic drug
• Increases nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine
• Cautions against use with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
• Well tolerated with low-dose statins

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Fenofibrate
• Severe renal or hepatic impairment
• Existing gall bladder disease
• Breastfeeding mothers
• Photosensitivity to ketoprofen

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not recommended for pregnant women

Precautions & Warnings

• Special care needed in patients with renal disease
• Discontinue if myotoxicity suspected or creatinine kinase concentration increases significantly
• Liver function tests recommended every 3 months for the first year

Overdose Effects

• No specific treatment for overdose
• General supportive care indicated
• Monitoring of vital signs and observation of clinical status should an overdose occur
• Hemodialysis not considered
