Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of chronic constipation in adults
Pharmacology
- Selective stimulator of 5-HT4 receptors
- Stimulates motility in GI tract
Dosage & Administration
- 2 mg once daily for adults
- Start with 1 mg for older people
- Not recommended for children under 18 years
Interaction
- Low interaction potential with CYP-mediated metabolism
- Possible interactions with potent inhibitors of P-gp
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
- Renal impairment requiring dialysis
Side Effects
- Most frequent: headache, gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea)
- Majority of adverse events are mild to moderate in intensity
