Folicare 2.5 mg/5 ml (Oral Solution)

Indications

• Treatment of folic acid deficiency
• Treatment of megaloblastic anemia
• Treatment of anemias of nutritional origins, pregnancy, infancy, or childhood

Pharmacology

Folic acid is converted to active forms for various biochemical processes including erythropoiesis, nucleic acid synthesis, amino acid interconversion, tRNA methylation, and homocysteine metabolism.

Dosage & Administration

• Adults: Initially: 5 mg daily for 4 months. Maintenance: 5 mg every 1-7 days depending on the underlying disease.
• Children: Up to 1 year: 500 mcg/kg daily. Over 1 year: Same as adult dose.

Use with caution in patients with folate dependent tumors, not for treatment of undiagnosed megaloblastic anemia, caution in elderly people
