Pharmacology
- Fibric acid derivative
- Rapid hydrolysis to fenofibric acid
- Reductions in total cholesterol
- LDL cholesterol
- Increases in HDL
- Reduction in serum uric acid levels
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 200 mg per day for hypercholesterolemia
- 67 to 200 mg per day for hypertriglyceridemia
- Individualized dose according to patient response
- Should be taken with a meal for optimal bioavailability
Interaction
- Potentiation of anticoagulant effects of warfarin
- Additive effects with antidiabetic drugs
- Increased nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine
- Cautions with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
- Well tolerated with low-dose statins
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fenofibrate
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Existing gall bladder disease

- Photosensitivity to ketoprofen
