Description
- Azactum is indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.
- It is a synthetic bactericidal monobactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by blocking peptidoglycan crosslinking
- Recommended dosages for adults and children for different types and severity of infections

Dosage for Adults
- 500 mg or 1 g every 8 or 12 hours for urinary tract infections
- 1 g or 2 g every 8 or 12 hours for moderately severe systemic infections
- 2 g every 6 or 8 hours for severe systemic or life-threatening infections
Dosage for Children
- 30 mg/kg every 6 hours for mild to moderate infections (over 1 week)
- 50 mg/kg every 6 or 8 hours for moderate to severe infections (2 years or older)
Maximum Recommended Dose
- 8 g per day for adults
- 120 mg/kg per day for pediatric patients

Interaction
- Clinically insignificant increases in serum levels when administered concomitantly with probenecid or furosemide
