Description
- Indicated for treatment of mild to moderate Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)
- Novel agent with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-fibrotic properties
- Improves lung function and reduces acute exacerbations in patients with IPF
- Suppresses TGF-β1, a key cytokine involved in fibrogenesis
- Downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, interleukin-1, and interferon-gamma
- Inhibits influx of inflammatory cells and increased pulmonary vascular permeability
- Orally administered with food
- Recommended daily dose titration for adults
- Dose adjustment for gastrointestinal events and photosensitivity reaction or rash
- Dosage adjustment in case of significant elevation of ALT/AST with or without bilirubin elevation
- Moderate and strong CYP1A2 inhibitors interaction
- No interaction with food and others
- Contraindicated in hypersensitivity, concomitant use of fluvoxamine, severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Common side effects include nausea, rash, abdominal pain, upper respiratory tract infection, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, dizziness, vomiting, anorexia, and more
- Rare side effects include photosensitivity reaction, decreased appetite, pruritus, asthenia, dysgeusia, and non-cardiac chest pain
- Precautions for elevated liver enzymes, photosensitivity and rash, and gastrointestinal disorders
- Not recommended for use in children & adolescents, severe hepatic impairment, and end-stage renal disease on dialysis
- Possible alteration of efficacy profile in smokers
- Limited clinical experience with overdose
