Indications

  • Treatment of mild to moderate Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in adults

Pharmacology

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-fibrotic properties
  • Improves lung function
  • Reduces acute exacerbations in patients with IPF
  • Suppresses TGF-β1
  • Downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines

Dosage & Administration

  • Route of administration: Oral with food
  • Recommended daily dose: nine 267 mg tablets or three 801 mg tablets per day
  • Titration regimen over 14 days
  • Dose adjustments for gastrointestinal events
  • Dose adjustments for photosensitivity reaction or rash
  • Dose adjustments for hepatic function

Interaction

  • Moderate and strong inhibitors of CYP1A2 increase systemic exposure
  • Interactions with medicine: ciprofloxacin, fluvoxamine
  • No interactions with food and others

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
  • Concomitant use of fluvoxamine
  • Severe hepatic impairment or end stage liver disease
  • Severe renal impairment or end stage renal disease requiring dialysis

Side Effects

  • Common: nausea, rash, abdominal pain
  • Rare: photosensitivity reaction, decreased appetite

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Precautionary measure to avoid use during pregnancy
  • Unknown excretion in human milk
  • No effects on fertility and reproductive performance in rats
