Indications
- Complicated skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology
- Glycopeptide-antibiotic
- Produced by Actinoplanes teichomyceticus
- Freely soluble in water
- Inhibits growth of susceptible organisms by interfering with cell-wall biosynthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Intravenous administration
- Intramuscular administration
- Dosage adapted based on severity of infection and patient's response to treatment
- Different dosages for normal kidney function, kidney failure, and children
- Recommended dosage for Clostridium difficile infection-associated diarrhea
Interaction
- Caution in patients receiving concurrent nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs such as Aminoglycosides, Amphotericin B, Cyclosporion, and Frusemide
Contraindications
- Known Hypersensitivity to the drug

- Local reactions like erythema and injection site abscess
- Allergic reactions like rash, pruritus, fever, and anaphylactic reactions
- Gastrointestinal reactions like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- CNS reactions like physical weakness, dizziness, and headache
- Hearing reactions like ringing in the ears and balance disorders
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B3
- Should not be used during confirmed or presumed pregnancy or during lactation unless potential benefits outweigh possible risks

- Caution in patients known to be hypersensitive to Vancomycin due to cross-hypersensitivity
