Pharmacology
- Fibric acid derivative
- Reductions in total cholesterol
- LDL cholesterol
- Triglycerides
- Increases in HDL
- Reduces serum uric acid levels
- Enhanced absorption
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 200 mg per day for hypercholesterolemia
- Initial dose of 67 to 200 mg per day for hypertriglyceridemia
- Individualized dose according to patient response
- Should be given with meal for optimized bioavailability
Interaction
- Potentiates anticoagulant effects of warfarin
- Improves glucose tolerance with antidiabetic drug
- Increases nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine
- Cautions against use with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
- Well tolerated with low-dose statins
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fenofibrate
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Existing gall bladder disease
- Breast feeding mothers
- Photosensitivity to ketoprofen
