Composition
- Each tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology
- Adequate Calcium in the blood is vital for bodily functions
- Clinical evidence suggests Calcium is useful for prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis and associated fractures
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption from GI tract
- Vitamin D stimulates bone formation
- Calcium and vitamin D have synergistic effects on bone growth
- Coral Calcium has a chemical structure similar to human bone
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption of Calcium from GI tract and helps maintain Calcium balance in the body
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by the physician
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
- Taking in full stomach ensures better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of concomitantly administered tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
- Bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride use may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of Corafast-DX
- Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Overdoses should be avoided in pregnant women to prevent adverse effects on the developing fetus
- No indications of teratogenicity in humans
- Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Follow serum calcium levels & monitor renal function during long-term treatment
- Monitor elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Monitor patients with high tendency to calculus formation
- Vitamin D should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment
- Consider risk of soft tissue calcification
- Consider patients with severe renal insufficiency and sarcoidosis
- Consider immobilized patients with osteoporosis
- Consider when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Consider additional doses under close medical supervision
- Monitor serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion frequently
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia
- Symptoms of hypercalcemia may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, and in severe cases, cardiac arrhythmias
- Persistently high calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
- Discontinue treatment and monitor electrolytes, renal function, and diuresis
